Movie Recommendation: Love's Abiding Joy

Last night I had the opportunity to preview a soon-to-be released movie entitled, "Love's Abiding Joy." Michael Landon Jr. directed this Western, Christian movie based on Janette Oak's bestselling novel. This film is 4th in a series and is based on Christian values and principles. It is one of many movies being released by Fox. You can find out more about the new direction Fox is taking in their productions at www.foxfaith.com. This movie premieres in October and is rated PG. The story is gripping, thought-provoking and moving. I loved it!!! It will be on my list for this Christmas!!!

New Cover: Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood

The most thorough resource I have found thus far on gender issues in the home, church and society is by editors John Piper and Wayne Grudem in the book, Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. This book is a required text for CHMN 220. I was just recently made aware of a new edition that has just been published. The new cover is below. If you haven't read this book, I highly encourage you to do so. Even though it may seem very overwhelming at first, the subject matter is so fascinating, it will be difficult at times to put it down. Regardless if you read the entire text, it is an excellent resource for any Christian leader. In brief, the authors combat key questions concerning Biblical masculinity and femininity. They also engage the reader in a thorough overview of definitions and concerns dealing with role relationships through historical research and exegesis. Check it out or purchase it from the Council for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood...their site is listed on my blog.

Book Recommendation!

I am going through a new book now and have been using it during my personal devo time and am really loving it. The title is: Spiritual Classics: Selected Readings for Individuals and Groups on the Twelve Spiritual Disciplines, edited by Richard Foster and Emilie Griffin. Basically, you read a synopsis of a man or woman in church history (a biographical sketch) then a portion of their personal writings, a passage of Scripture and an evaluation by Richard Foster. I enjoy it because you learn about other people throughout church history who were really influenced by God and in turn influenced the society in which they lived. Today I read about a woman named Agnes Sanford (1897-1980) who really believed in prayer and took part in healing ministries. Listen to this quote: "For only those who admit their spiritual poverty are willing to learn." - Agnes Sanford, The Healing Light

Courses for Women's Ministries Specialization & Minor

Many of you have inquired about the specific courses you need to specialize or minor in women's ministries. To obtain your specialization in women's ministries, you must major in Religion; to obtain your minor, you can major in anything other than Religion. When women's ministries becomes a major, we will be striking the specialization due to there being no reason to have it any more with a major. I hope this does not sound confusing.

Okay, here goes:
CHMN 220 - Survey of Women's Ministries,
CHMN 403 - Professional Orientation for Women in Ministry,
CHMN 387 - Methods of Teaching the Bible for Women,
CHMN 320 - The Role of the Christian Woman,
CHMN 330 - The Christian Woman,
You Choose 1 of the 4:
FACS 330, 350, 370 or PYSC 360.

What Can I DO with a Women's Ministry Major or Minor?

The women's ministries major and minor is designed to educate today's woman in prinicples of Biblical masculinity and feminity as well as to equip women to be women's ministry directors, women teachers/speakers in the church and para-church organization. A women's ministry major and minor will equip women to combat the world's culture with timeless truth found in God's Word. This is an excellent degree for any woman desiring to lead other women in the church, para-church organization, conference ministries, or mission field.

Update!

This past Friday the School of Religion passed the proposal for a major in women's ministries. Now the proposal will go other committees! Please continue to pray...I really believe we are going to see a new major in this field soon...fall 2007. The major includes courses related specifically in women's ministries as well as courses heavy in Bible and Theology. A new course entitled, "Women's Roles in Missions," will also be a part of this new major.

Developing Major in Women's Ministries

I am pleased to share with you that I turned in the Academic Program Proposal for a Major in Women's Ministries to the Deans Council of the School of Religion this Wednesday, August 30 and it passed! The next meeting will be with the School of Religion then a couple more meetings throughout the semester. I am excited about this new development. If the proposal passes in all these meetings then we will have a New Major beginning next fall. Thank you for your prayers...please keep praying! I am pumped for the many opportunities God has in store for you all!
